If you want a Canva alternative that designs your posts and also publishes them on schedule, you have more options than you might think. Canva can schedule too, but its Content Planner sits on paid plans, and Canva is a design tool first. Below are six tools that cover both jobs, with plan limits checked on each company's own site on 13 October 2026, and an honest note on where each one beats the others.
Short answer: for a small business posting to several networks, GoBrandIt is the best Canva alternative for social media content creation and scheduling on a budget, because the designer, the scheduler, the inbox and AI captions all sit in one free plan. If design quality is the whole job, Adobe Express is the closest like-for-like swap. And if you love Canva's editor, you don't have to leave it. Keep Canva for design and plug it into a scheduler.
The short version
Canva's scheduler (the Content Planner) is a paid feature: its help centre lists Pro, Business, Education and Nonprofits.
Adobe Express is the closest design-first swap, with a free scheduler for one account per network.
GoBrandIt pairs a Social Designer (300+ templates) with a full scheduler on a free plan, and it connects to Canva too.
Want to keep designing in Canva? Buffer, Later, Metricool, Publer and GoBrandIt all take Canva designs.
What Canva's own scheduler does, and which plan you need
Canva's scheduling tool is called the Content Planner. You open it from the Canva homepage, pick a date, choose a design and a connected account, add a caption and schedule it. You can also schedule straight from the editor through the Share menu. According to Canva's help centre, scheduling is available on Canva Pro, Canva Business, Canva Education and Canva for Nonprofits. The free plan isn't on that list.
Canva's prices vary by country and change often, so check Canva's pricing page for your local figure rather than trusting a number in a blog post (including ours).
For plenty of people that setup is enough. If you post to two accounts and design is 90% of the work, Canva Pro with the Content Planner is fine. The gaps show up when social media turns into a weekly routine rather than an occasional post. Before you commit to any tool, check it against this list:
A separate caption for each network, with its own character counter
A posting queue that drops new posts into your usual time slots
Comments and messages from every account in one inbox
Analytics per network, not just per design
Manager or client approval before anything goes live
The networks you actually use, such as TikTok, Threads, Bluesky or Google Business Profile
Canva may cover some of these by the time you read this. The point is to test your own list, not ours.
The best Canva alternative for social media content creation and scheduling, compared
The field splits in two. Some tools are design-first with a scheduler bolted on (Canva, Adobe Express). Others are scheduler-first with a designer built in (GoBrandIt) or with Canva plugged in (Buffer, Later, Metricool, Publer). Every price below comes from the vendor's own pricing page.

Tip
Free plans are the cheapest way to test. Schedule one real week of posts on two tools before you pay for either.
Six Canva alternatives, one by one
1. GoBrandIt: designer and scheduler in one free plan
This is our own tool, so weigh it with that in mind. The Social Designer has 300+ templates for posts, Stories and carousels up to 10 pages, in 8 sizes from square to Pin. A Brand Kit holds your logo, colours and fonts, and it handles Nepali (Devanagari) type, which most editors fumble. "Design with AI" fills in a template's words, and "Use in post" drops the finished design into the composer.
From there it's a full scheduler: one post with a separate version per network, "Adapt with AI" rewrites, live previews, a queue built from your own posting times and a drag-to-reschedule content calendar. The free plan covers 3 accounts, 15 scheduled posts and 2 team members. Creator is $4.99 a month for 10 accounts. AI photo edits and background removal need a paid plan with AI images.
Where Canva is better: the editor itself. Canva's template library and photo tools are bigger than ours. That's exactly why GoBrandIt also connects to Canva, so you don't have to choose.
2. Adobe Express: the closest like-for-like swap
If you want another full design editor, Adobe Express is the obvious pick. Its Content Scheduler is on the free plan. Adobe says you can connect TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, Pinterest and LinkedIn, one account per network, and post up to 1,000 times a month. Premium, at $9.99 a month billed monthly, raises that to three accounts per network, per Adobe's Content Scheduler page.
We'd pick it for a designer or a creator running one brand. It gets tight once a business has two Instagram accounts or a list of clients.
3. Buffer: keep Canva, add a clean scheduler
Buffer doesn't try to be a design tool. Its Canva integration opens Canva inside Buffer's composer, and Buffer's help centre says it works on the free plan. Free gives you 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel and 1 user. Paid plans are priced per channel, with Essentials at $5 a month per channel on yearly billing. The integration is desktop-only and brings in static images, so animated designs need exporting as MP4 first.
4. Later: Canva designs into an Instagram-first planner
Later works through a Later app inside Canva that sends a design to Later's media library. It's strong on Instagram and TikTok, with link in bio on every plan. There's no free plan on its pricing page today. Starter is $18.75 a month billed yearly for one social set (one profile on each supported network) and 30 posts per profile.
5. Metricool: reporting first, Canva on paid plans
Metricool's free plan covers one brand and up to 20 scheduled posts a month, but leaves out LinkedIn and X. The Canva integration starts on Starter, which is $20 a month on yearly billing for up to 5 brands ($25 billed monthly). Pick it if your monthly report matters as much as the design.
6. Publer: Canva plus a built-in photo editor
Publer has a Canva integration and its own photo editor for cropping, filters and text. The free plan covers 3 accounts (X isn't allowed on free), 10 scheduled posts per account and 1 user, and published posts are only kept for 24 hours. Paid plans are priced per account on its pricing page.
Design-first or schedule-first: which do you need?
Most people searching for a Canva alternative are really asking one of two questions. Be honest about which one is yours.
You spend most of your time designing. Stay design-first. Canva or Adobe Express will serve you better than any scheduler's built-in editor.
You spend most of your time posting, replying and reporting. Go schedule-first. A scheduler with a decent designer, or one that pulls designs from Canva, saves you the daily download-and-upload.
You manage clients. Look at approvals and separate workspaces before you look at templates.
A quick test: count the posts you published last month and how many needed a brand-new design. If most were reused templates with fresh words, the scheduler matters more than the editor. A Thamel café posting a daily special needs one good template and a reliable queue. A Kathmandu agency building campaign creatives for six clients needs a serious editor and an approval step.
Our pick
For a small business or creator posting to three or more networks: GoBrandIt. You get templates, a Brand Kit, AI captions in your Brand Voice, and a scheduler with a queue, calendar and inbox, starting free. For a designer who schedules a handful of posts: Adobe Express. For a team that's happy in Canva: keep Canva and connect it to Buffer or GoBrandIt.
We'd skip paying for a design tool's scheduler if you also need an inbox and analytics. You'll end up paying for a second tool anyway.
Using Canva and GoBrandIt together
You don't have to pick one. GoBrandIt integrates with Canva, so a design you made there can go straight into a post, get a caption version for each network and land in the queue. Our guide on how to schedule Canva posts walks through it step by step.
A setup that works well: use the Social Designer for quick, repeatable posts (offers, quotes, Dashain and Tihar greetings) and keep Canva for the bigger creative pieces. You can see every integration we support or compare plans and prices before you start.
Design and schedule in one place, free
GoBrandIt's free plan gives you 3 social accounts, the Social Designer and the scheduler, with no card needed. Connect Canva if you'd rather keep designing there.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free alternative to Canva for social media?
Yes. Adobe Express has a free plan with a design editor and a scheduler for one account per network. GoBrandIt's free plan includes the Social Designer plus scheduling for 3 accounts.
Can you schedule posts on Canva's free plan?
Canva's help centre lists scheduling on Canva Pro, Canva Business, Canva Education and Canva for Nonprofits, so the free plan doesn't include the Content Planner.
Which social media scheduler works best with Canva?
Buffer, Later, Metricool, Publer and GoBrandIt all connect to Canva. Buffer's integration works on its free plan, while Metricool's starts on its paid Starter plan.
