Good Tihar social media marketing in Nepal comes down to three things: a post for each day of the festival, one clear offer, and accurate holiday hours everywhere customers look. Everything else is decoration. Tihar falls in early November in 2026, so if you start planning now, you have about three weeks.
This guide gives you a day-by-day content plan from Kag Tihar to Bhai Tika, Tihar and Dashain social media post ideas for businesses in Nepal sorted by business type, greetings written in Devanagari, and the exact steps to set holiday hours on Google. It's written for the café in Thamel, the jewellery shop in Butwal, the hotel on Pokhara Lakeside and the clothing store in Dharan.
If Dashain is still ahead of you, our Dashain and Tihar campaign ideas cover the longer season. This post zooms in on the five days of Tihar.
The short version
Plan one post per Tihar day, scheduled a week before, so nobody has to post from a family gathering.
Keep greetings and sales apart. A Laxmi Puja greeting with a price tag on it reads as a hard sell.
Write greetings in Devanagari with a proper Nepali font, then have a native speaker check the spelling.
Set special hours on Google Business Profile for every day you close or open late.
Tihar social media marketing starts three weeks out
The businesses that do well at Tihar aren't the ones posting the most. They're the ones that finished their designs and captions before the shopping rush, then spent the festival answering messages. Work backwards from the festival:
When
What to do
Who it's for
3 weeks before
Pick one offer, write all greetings, design the graphics
Owner and designer
2 weeks before
Announce the offer, open pre-orders or bookings
Shops, bakeries, salons
1 week before
Schedule every Tihar post, set Google special hours
Everyone
Each Tihar day
One greeting or story post, reply to messages
Everyone
Day after Bhai Tika
Thank-you post, reopening hours, best photos
Everyone
Check this year's dates against the government holiday list before you lock in anything that depends on a specific day, such as a closing notice. The order of the days matters more for content than the exact dates, and in some years two observances fall on the same day.
Tip
Write the offer end date into the graphic itself. People screenshot festival offers and come back days later.
One post for each day, from Kag Tihar to Bhai Tika
Each day of Tihar honours something different, which gives you a ready-made content calendar. You don't need to sell on every day. Two days of offers and three days of warmth is a good balance.
Kag Tihar: crows and the countdown
The first day is for crows, the messengers. It's a soft start, so use it to announce your Tihar hours and remind people your offer ends soon. A bakery in Bhaktapur could post a short clip of the morning's sel roti batch with "Pre-orders close tonight".
Kukur Tihar: the most shared day of the year
Dog photos with a tika and a marigold garland are the easiest engagement you'll get all year. Ask followers to share their own dog in the comments, or photograph the street dogs your staff look after. Pet shops and vets have an obvious hook, but a Pokhara hotel with a resident dog can do just as well. Keep it a greeting, not a sale.
Gai Tihar and Laxmi Puja: the big shopping day
Cows are worshipped in the morning, and in the evening homes are lit up for Laxmi, the goddess of wealth. This is your strongest day for offers: gold and silver, new clothes, home décor, electronics, sweets. Post the offer early in the day and save the evening for a greeting with your shop's diyo and rangoli. Deusi-Bhailo groups start visiting around now, so a café can post about welcoming them.
Govardhan Puja and Mha Puja
Govardhan Puja honours oxen, and in Newar communities Mha Puja, the worship of the self, marks the start of the Nepal Sambat new year. If your customers are in Kathmandu Valley, Bhaktapur or anywhere with a Newar community, a respectful Mha Puja greeting shows you know who you're talking to. Ask a Newar colleague to check the wording.
Bhai Tika: gifts and family
The last day is about brothers and sisters. Gift guides work well before the day, family photos and thank-you posts on the day itself. A Dharan clothing store could post "Gifts for your didi under Rs. 2,000" three days earlier, then a simple greeting on Bhai Tika.
Tihar and Dashain social media post ideas by business type
The two festivals sit only a few weeks apart, so plan them as one season. Here are Tihar and Dashain social media post ideas for businesses in Nepal, matched to what customers actually buy at each:
Business
Dashain idea
Tihar idea
Café or restaurant
Family set menu for the holiday
Sel roti and sweets box, Deusi-Bhailo welcome
Jewellery shop
Tika-day jewellery lookbook
Laxmi Puja gold and silver offer
Clothing store
New clothes for Dashain
Bhai Tika gift guide by budget
Hotel or homestay
Family room packages
Lights and rangoli at the property
Electronics shop
Exchange offer before the holiday
Festival lighting and home appliances
Salon or parlour
Pre-festival booking slots
Bridal and party looks for the season
Pet shop or vet
Travel boarding for pets
Kukur Tihar garlands and treats
Sweet shop
Pre-orders for visiting relatives
Bhai Tika sweet boxes
Pick two or three ideas that fit you. A small shop that posts five good things over Tihar beats one that posts fifteen rushed ones. If you sell online, our guide on how to sell on social media in Nepal covers taking orders by message and payment.
Festival offers that don't cheapen your brand
Every shop in Nepal runs a Tihar offer, so a vague "Big Tihar Sale" disappears in the feed. A specific offer with a deadline gets noticed. What tends to work:
One offer, clearly priced. "Free silver coin with gold purchases over Rs. 50,000" beats "Up to 50% off".
A real end date. "Until Laxmi Puja" or "Ends Bhai Tika" gives people a reason to come now.
Bundles instead of discounts. A Bhai Tika gift box or a family set menu protects your margin better than a price cut.
Pre-orders for anything perishable. Sweet shops and bakeries avoid waste and get cash in early.
No fake countdowns. If you extend the offer, say so honestly. Customers remember.
Keep the offer posts and the greeting posts separate. Your Laxmi Puja greeting should be a greeting. Put the price in a different post, earlier in the day.
Greetings in Devanagari: get the script right
A greeting in Nepali script feels personal in a way English doesn't, but a broken font or a spelling mistake undoes it fast. Some greetings you can adapt:
शुभ दीपावली तथा तिहारको हार्दिक शुभकामना
भाइटीकाको हार्दिक मंगलमय शुभकामना
नेपाल संवत् नयाँ वर्षको शुभकामना
Newar customers will also recognise न्हूदँया भिन्तुना for Nepal Sambat.
Three rules keep greeting graphics looking professional. Use a font built for Devanagari, because many Latin fonts render conjuncts as broken boxes. Keep the text short enough to read on a phone in a second. And have someone who writes Nepali daily check every word before you schedule it. For caption examples in Nepali and Romanized Nepali, see our Nepali social media captions guide.
Tip
Use your brand colours and logo on every greeting. A festival card that could belong to any shop is a missed chance.
Set holiday hours on your Google Business Profile
Social posts are only half of it. When someone searches your shop on Google Maps during Tihar, they see your hours, and wrong hours mean a customer standing at a locked shutter. Google's special hours help page explains how to fix it:
1. Open your Business Profile, select Edit profile, then Hours.
2. Next to Special hours, select the edit icon.
3. Pick a date, either a suggested one or your own.
4. Set the hours for that day, or tick Closed if you're shut all day.
5. Select Save and repeat for each festival day.
Special hours replace your regular hours only on the dates you set, so you don't need to change anything back afterwards. Google says they're for closures of up to 6 days in a row. If you're closing for a week or more, mark the business as temporarily closed instead. Your regular hours also need to be set to "Open with main hours" for special hours to show. Google suggests confirming hours for holidays even when they don't change, so customers know the times are accurate.
You can also publish a Google Offer post for your Tihar deal, with dates and a coupon code. Our Google Business Profile Nepal guide walks through posts, photos and reviews.
Schedule it all before the festival starts
Nobody wants to be designing a Bhai Tika post while the family is waiting for tika. The fix is boring and it works: finish everything a week before, schedule it, and only open your phone to reply to customers.
That's what we built GoBrandIt for. The dashboard has a festival countdown and a "Plan the year" calendar that already lists Dashain, Tihar, Bhai Tika, Chhath and Mha Puja, so the next festival never sneaks up on you. Social Designer has Nepali (Devanagari) type and your Brand Kit for greeting cards, and GoBrandIt Copilot answers in English, Nepali or Romanized Nepali when you need caption ideas. Schedule a post once for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Google Business Profile, then drag it on the content calendar if plans change. Comments and messages land in one inbox.
Businesses in Nepal pay yearly in rupees through eSewa or bank transfer: Creator is Rs. 2,500 a year, Business Rs. 7,000 and Agency Rs. 15,000. The Free plan covers 3 accounts with no card. See pricing for the full comparison.
Plan Tihar in one afternoon
Start on GoBrandIt Free, design your greetings in Nepali, and schedule every Tihar post a week early. Upgrade later in rupees by eSewa.
Frequently asked questions
When should I start Tihar social media marketing?
About three weeks before. That gives you time to pick an offer, design greetings and announce pre-orders two weeks out, then schedule everything a week before the festival.
What should a business post on Laxmi Puja?
Post your offer early in the day and a greeting in the evening. Keep them as separate posts so the greeting doesn't read like an advert.
Should Tihar greetings be in Nepali or English?
Use the language your customers use. Many Nepali businesses post the greeting in Devanagari and the caption in English or Romanized Nepali. Always have a native speaker check the spelling.
How do I show holiday hours on Google Maps?
Add special hours in your Google Business Profile under Edit profile, then Hours. Tick Closed for days you're shut. For closures of 7 days or more, Google recommends marking the business temporarily closed.
How many posts should I make during Tihar?
One a day across the five observances is plenty, plus an offer announcement beforehand and a thank-you post after Bhai Tika.
