How to Schedule Bluesky Posts (+ Threads and Mastodon)

Connect Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Mastodon, Pixelfed, Bluesky, LinkedIn, TikTok and WordPress in GoBrandIt

Bluesky, Threads and Mastodon have become real alternatives to X for brands, creators and communities. The catch is that their scheduling tools are limited or missing. Bluesky and Mastodon’s own apps have no scheduler, and Threads’ built-in option has gaps.

This guide explains how to schedule Bluesky posts, Threads posts and Mastodon posts in 2026, what each platform can and can’t do natively, and how to plan all three from one calendar.

Quick answer: can you schedule posts natively?

Platform Native scheduling Character limit Notes
Bluesky No 300 Up to 4 images or 1 video per post
Threads Yes, since January 2025 500 Up to 75 days ahead; replies and polls can’t be scheduled
Mastodon Not in the official web app or apps 500 by default (varies by server) The Mastodon API supports scheduled posts, which third-party tools use
Pixelfed No Varies by server Photo-first; use a third-party scheduler

For Bluesky, Mastodon and Pixelfed, you need a third-party scheduler. For Threads, the native scheduler works for simple posts, but a scheduler helps when Threads is one of several networks.

How to schedule Threads posts natively

Threads added built-in scheduling in January 2025, on both the app and the web.

  1. Start a new thread and write your post.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu in the composer.
  3. Choose Schedule and pick a date and time, up to 75 days ahead.
  4. Tap Done, then Schedule.

Scheduled posts appear in your drafts, where you can edit or delete them. You can’t schedule replies or polls, and there’s no shared calendar with your other networks.

How to schedule Bluesky posts

Bluesky’s app doesn’t include a scheduler, so you’ll need a tool that connects to your account. In GoBrandIt:

  1. Open Social Accounts and choose Bluesky.
  2. Sign in to connect your account. If you’re asked for an app password, create one in Bluesky under Settings, then Privacy and security, then App passwords. It lets tools post for you without sharing your main password.
  3. Open the composer, select your Bluesky account and write your post within 300 characters.
  4. Add up to four images or one video.
  5. Pick a time, or add the post to your queue.

How to schedule Mastodon posts

Mastodon is decentralised, so your account lives on a specific server, such as mastodon.social. The official web app and mobile apps don’t let you schedule, but third-party tools can, using the scheduled posts feature in the Mastodon API.

  1. In GoBrandIt, open Social Accounts and choose Mastodon.
  2. Enter your server, such as mastodon.social, and sign in to authorise the connection.
  3. Write your post in the composer. Most servers allow 500 characters, though some allow more.
  4. Add image descriptions (alt text). The Mastodon community expects them.
  5. Schedule the post or add it to your queue.

How to schedule Pixelfed posts

Pixelfed is a photo-sharing network on the same fediverse as Mastodon. Connect it in GoBrandIt the same way, add your images and captions, and schedule them alongside your Instagram posts.

Scheduling all three from one composer

The real time saver is writing once and publishing everywhere. Select Bluesky, Threads, Mastodon and your other accounts in the composer, then tailor each version.

Keep the character limits in mind. A 450-character Threads post won’t fit Bluesky’s 300, so write the short version first and expand where there’s room. Here’s our full guide on how to post to multiple social media platforms.

What to post on Bluesky, Threads and Mastodon

These networks reward conversation more than polished ads.

  • Bluesky: quick takes, links with your opinion, industry news, and short threads. Custom feeds help niche communities find you.
  • Threads: casual, personal posts, questions and behind-the-scenes updates. One topic tag per post helps discovery.
  • Mastodon: thoughtful posts, useful links and plenty of replies. Content warnings and alt text are part of the culture.

On all three, reply to people. Scheduling handles the posting so you have time for the conversations.

Tips for fediverse and Bluesky growth

  • Post consistently, a few times a week at least.
  • Join the conversation, don’t just broadcast.
  • Use alt text on every image.
  • Keep links useful, with a line on why they matter.
  • Watch what performs, and do more of it. Our guide to social media metrics explains what to track.
