Affordable Hootsuite Alternative: Real Costs for 3–10 Accounts

Hootsuite's cheapest plan, Standard, is listed at $99 per user a month on annual billing. For a one-person business that's $1,188 a year. Add two colleagues and it's $3,564. An affordable Hootsuite alternative for small businesses can cover the same 3 to 10 accounts for a fraction of that, and below we've done the maths with prices checked on each vendor's site on 13 October 2026.

Our picks: SocialPilot if you want a classic Hootsuite-style dashboard for much less, and GoBrandIt if you want the lowest bill with a designer and inbox included. Hootsuite is still the better buy for some teams, and we'll say which ones.

The short version

Hootsuite Standard: $99 per user a month on annual billing, up to 10 accounts, no free plan.

Hootsuite charges per seat, so every extra person adds another $99 a month on Standard.

Buffer, SocialPilot, Later, Metricool and GoBrandIt all cover 3–10 accounts for under $100 a month, most for under $50.

Stay on Hootsuite if you need unlimited accounts, inbox automation or enterprise-style team workflows.

What Hootsuite costs in 2026

From Hootsuite's plans page:

Plan

Standard

$99 per user/month

10

Professional

$199 per user/month

Unlimited

Advanced

Up to $399 per user/month

Enterprise

Unlimited

Three details matter on a small budget. Plans are sold per user (Hootsuite calls them seats), so the bill multiplies with your team. Monthly billing costs more per seat than annual. And there's no free plan, only a 14-day trial with no card required, which comes with daily posting limits while it runs.

The real maths: cost per account and per user

Sticker prices don't compare well because every tool counts differently. Hootsuite charges per user. Buffer charges per channel. Later sells social sets. Metricool sells brands. So here are three typical small-business setups, priced per month on annual billing.

Tool

Solo, 5 accounts

3 people, 8 accounts

5 people, 10 accounts

Hootsuite Standard

$99

$297

$495

Buffer

$80 (Team)

$100 (Team)

SocialPilot

$25.50 (Essentials)

$52.50 (Standard + 2 users)

Later

$18.75 (Starter)

$41.25 (Growth + 1 user)

$48.75 (Growth + 3 users)

Metricool

$20 (Starter)

$53 (Advanced)

$53 (Advanced)

GoBrandIt

$4.17 (Creator)

$4.17 (Creator)

$10 (Business)

Some fine print. Later's social sets hold one profile per network, so two Instagram accounts need two sets. Metricool's team, role and approval features start on Advanced. GoBrandIt Creator caps you at 30 scheduled posts, so if you plan a month ahead across 8 accounts you'll want Business, which allows 150 scheduled posts for $120 a year.

Now per account. Hootsuite Standard works out to $9.90 an account each month if one person uses all 10 accounts, and $49.50 an account with five seats. Buffer Team is a flat $10 a channel however many people log in. GoBrandIt Business is $10 a month for up to 25 accounts, so the per-account cost keeps falling as you add accounts.

Tip

Price your setup by seats first, then accounts. With per-user pricing, the person who logs in twice a month is the expensive one.

Affordable Hootsuite alternatives for small businesses

SocialPilot: the closest Hootsuite-style swap

Essentials is $25.50 a month on annual billing ($30 monthly) for 7 accounts and 1 user. Standard, at $42.50 ($50 monthly), gives you 15 accounts, 3 users, a social inbox, analytics and manager approval. Extra accounts are $4 a month and extra users $5, per SocialPilot's plans page. There's a 14-day trial with no card.

Buffer: cheapest per account for small teams

Buffer bills per channel: Essentials is $5 a month per channel and Team is $10, both on yearly billing. Team includes unlimited team members, approval workflows and access levels, which makes it good value when you have more people than accounts. There's also a free plan for 3 channels.

Later: best for Instagram and TikTok-heavy brands

Starter is $18.75 a month billed yearly for one social set, 1 user and 30 posts per profile. Growth, at $37.50, adds a second set, 2 users and 180 posts per profile, and extra users cost $3.75 a month. Starter can't add users at all.

Metricool: best when reports are the main job

Free for one brand with 20 scheduled posts a month. Starter is $20 a month on yearly billing for up to 5 brands. Advanced, from $53 a month, adds team and client management, roles and post approvals.

GoBrandIt: lowest bill, designer and inbox included

Our own tool. Creator is $4.99 a month or $50 a year for 10 accounts, 4 team members and 30 scheduled posts. Business is $12.99 a month or $120 a year for 25 accounts, 6 team members and 150 scheduled posts. You get a composer with a version per network, a queue, a content calendar, an engagement inbox with Google reviews, analytics per network, the Social Designer and client review links. In Nepal, Business is Rs. 7,000 a year by eSewa or bank transfer. For a feature-by-feature comparison, see our Hootsuite alternative page.

Looking at Sprout Social instead? Its Essentials plan is $79 per seat a month on annual billing for 5 social profiles, so for a team it doesn't save much over Hootsuite. Our longer list of Hootsuite alternatives covers more options.

Where Hootsuite is still worth the money

Cheaper isn't automatically better. Hootsuite earns its price if:

You need more than 10 accounts on a single seat. Professional and Advanced have unlimited accounts.

Your inbox is busy enough to need automated replies and workflows (Professional) or auto-routing to the right person (Advanced).

You want built-in team review and approval inside a larger organisation (Advanced).

You're a nonprofit. Hootsuite says it offers discounted rates on some plans.

For a business running 3 to 10 accounts, those are rarely the deciding features. Most small teams need a calendar, a queue, decent analytics and a way for the owner to sign off before posts go live.

How to cut your social media software bill this quarter

1. Count seats, not just accounts. Give occasional reviewers a review link or an approval step instead of a paid seat.

2. Audit your connected accounts. On per-channel plans, a dead profile still costs money.

3. Pay yearly once you're sure. Buffer, SocialPilot, Later and Metricool all discount annual billing.

4. Run a two-week overlap. Start the new tool's trial while Hootsuite is still active, rebuild your posting times, then move scheduled posts across before cancelling.

5. Save any Hootsuite reports you need before the subscription ends.

Here's what that looks like in practice. A Kathmandu agency with five staff on Hootsuite Standard pays $495 a month for 10 accounts. The same team on SocialPilot Standard with two extra users pays $52.50. On GoBrandIt Business it's $10 a month, with room for 25 accounts. Our guide to managing multiple social media accounts covers the day-to-day setup, and approvals and team collaboration shows how sign-off works without extra seats.

Which affordable option should you pick?

Solo, up to 10 accounts: GoBrandIt Creator or Buffer Essentials.

Small team that wants the Hootsuite feel: SocialPilot Standard.

Instagram and TikTok first: Later Growth.

Reporting first: Metricool.

Many accounts on one seat, heavy inbox automation: stay on Hootsuite Professional.

If you only remember one thing: for 3 to 10 accounts, the best affordable Hootsuite alternative for small businesses is the one that prices your team the way it actually works. Per-seat pricing punishes teams with many occasional users. Per-channel pricing punishes businesses with many accounts and one person. Flat plans with generous account limits, like GoBrandIt's or SocialPilot's, tend to win in the middle.

Whichever you choose, compare the setup you'll have in six months, not today. A tool that's cheap for 5 accounts can get expensive at 12. Check the full numbers on our pricing page before you switch.
