Best Free Social Media Scheduler in 2026: 8 Free Plans Compared

Looking for the best free social media scheduling tool for small businesses? Buffer is the best free social media scheduler if you want the simplest setup, Zoho Social if you need the most channels, and GoBrandIt if two people share the work and you design your own posts. No free plan is unlimited. Each one cuts something different, so the right pick depends on what you'd miss most.

We read the pricing pages and help docs of every tool below on 13 October 2026 and kept only the limits we could confirm on the company's own site. Where a number isn't published, we say so instead of guessing. GoBrandIt is our product. It's in here as one entry, with its gaps marked.

The table in the first section has the numbers. The rest explains what those limits mean day to day, and when it's worth paying for more.

The short version

Buffer Free is the easiest start: 3 channels, 10 queued posts per channel, AI assistant included.

Zoho Social Free connects the most channels (6), but only one of each type and one user.

GoBrandIt Free adds a second team member, a design tool and an inbox, with fewer queued posts than Buffer.

Hootsuite, Later, Sprout Social and SocialBee offer trials, not free plans.

Two kinds of post limit hide in that table. Buffer and Publer cap how many posts can sit in the queue at once. When one publishes, the slot opens again. Metricool and Pallyy cap posts per month, and Metricool only counts posts that actually publish. A queue cap is usually friendlier for a small business that posts a few times a week.

Tip

A cap of 10 queued posts per channel goes further than it sounds. Post three times a week and you can still plan three weeks ahead.

How we judged each free plan

A free plan is only useful if it covers the networks you actually post to and doesn't run out mid-month. So we looked at six things:

Accounts: how many profiles or pages you can connect, and which networks are excluded.

Post limit: how many posts you can schedule, and whether that's a queue or a monthly cap.

AI: whether captions or images are included, and how much.

Seats: whether a second person can log in without sharing a password.

Extras: inbox, analytics history, design tools.

Upgrade path: what the first paid plan costs if you outgrow free.

We didn't score ease of use with made-up ratings. Every tool here has a free plan or free tier, so the best test is your own: connect your accounts and schedule a week of posts.

The 8 best free social media scheduling tools for small businesses

1. Buffer: best for a simple start

Buffer Free connects 3 channels and holds 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time, so 30 in total. Drafts are unlimited, the AI Assistant has no credit cap, and you get a community inbox for comments plus 30 days of insights. It's one user only, and approvals and reports sit on paid plans. Paid starts at $5 per channel a month on yearly billing, per Buffer's pricing page. Buffer's unlimited free AI is more generous than ours, and its app is about as clean as scheduling gets. Read our Buffer alternatives roundup if you're weighing it up.

2. Publer: best for Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest

Publer Free lets you connect 3 social accounts, excluding X, with up to 10 scheduled posts per account. You get 25 saved drafts, but published posts drop out of Publer after 24 hours, so there's no post history to look back on. AI Assist needs the Business plan unless you connect your own OpenAI key. Pinterest accounts need at least 100 followers or a claimed website on the free plan. Paid plans start at $5 a month for one account.

3. Metricool: best for numbers people

Metricool Free gives you one brand with one profile per network and 20 posts a month. LinkedIn isn't available on free, and X is a paid add-on. The draw is analytics: 30 days of history (with a watermark) and a look at 5 competitor profiles. You also get 5 AI text credits a month. Starter costs $20 a month billed yearly.

4. Zoho Social: best for LinkedIn and Google Business

Zoho Social's free plan connects 6 channels in one brand: one X profile, one Instagram profile, one Facebook Page, one LinkedIn Company Page, one LinkedIn profile and one Google Business Profile. That's the widest spread of any free plan here (see Zoho Social pricing), with room for both a LinkedIn profile and a LinkedIn Page. It's one team member and 5 AI credits, and the free plan kicks in after a 15-day all-access trial. TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest aren't in the free channel list.

5. GoBrandIt: best for a team of two that designs its own posts

GoBrandIt Free connects 3 accounts across 13 networks, including TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky, Google Business Profile and WordPress. You can hold 15 scheduled posts, invite 2 team members and use 50 AI credits a month for captions in your Brand Voice. Free also includes Social Designer (300+ templates), the engagement inbox, the Idea Board, Canva, campaigns and the Android app. The gaps: 15 scheduled posts is half of Buffer's 30, there are no AI images on free, and storage is 250 MB. Creator is $4.99 a month for 10 accounts.

6. Pallyy: best for a few photo posts a week

Pallyy Free gives you one social set, 15 scheduled posts a month and one user. It's image posts only, with no AI captions. That suits a bakery or boutique that shares a few product photos a week and nothing else. Pro is $25 a month.

7. Adobe Express: best for design first, scheduling second

Adobe Express Free includes a content scheduler limited to one account per social network, alongside its template library and free daily generative AI generations. If you make graphics anyway, scheduling from the same place saves a step. It's a design app with scheduling added, though, so don't expect queue logic or an inbox. Premium is $9.99 a month.

8. Meta Business Suite: best if you only use Facebook and Instagram

Meta's own tool is free and schedules posts and Stories to Facebook and Instagram from one calendar. Its inbox pulls in Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp Business messages. It does nothing for TikTok, LinkedIn or YouTube.

Which free scheduler should your small business pick?

The best free social media scheduling tool for small businesses is the one that matches how you actually post, not the longest feature list.

Solo owner, three channels, wants it simple: Buffer.

B2B firm, clinic or consultant living on LinkedIn and Google: Zoho Social.

Only Facebook and Instagram: Meta Business Suite.

You want to see what competitors post: Metricool.

Two people sharing the work, making your own graphics: GoBrandIt.

Design comes first, one brand: Adobe Express.

Take a Thamel café posting to Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. Meta Business Suite covers two of those three, so it's out. Buffer or GoBrandIt fits all three on free. If the owner and one staff member both post, GoBrandIt avoids a shared password. If it's just the owner and they post less than ten times per channel ahead, Buffer is simpler. For the mechanics, see our guide on how to schedule social media posts.

Popular tools without a free plan

Some of the best-known names don't have a free tier at all. They offer trials instead, which is fine for testing but not for running your business on $0.

Hootsuite: 14-day trial, no card needed. Standard starts at $99 a month for 10 social accounts.

Later: 14-day trial. Starter is $18.75 a month billed yearly, with 8 profiles and 30 posts per profile.

Sprout Social: 30-day trial, no card needed. Essentials is $79 per seat a month on yearly billing.

SocialBee: 14-day trial. Bootstrap is $24 a month billed yearly for 5 profiles.

These are strong products, and Sprout Social in particular is built for bigger teams. For a small business on a tight budget, though, a free plan you can keep beats a trial that ends in two weeks.

When a free social media scheduler stops being enough

Free plans are built to be outgrown. You'll know it's time to pay when one of these happens more than once:

1. You hit the post cap every week and end up posting by hand.

2. You need a fourth account, like adding Google Business Profile to your three socials.

3. A client or manager needs to approve posts before they go out.

4. You want AI images, not just captions.

5. You need more than 30 days of analytics to see a trend.

Watch how each tool charges. Buffer prices per channel, so five channels cost more than three. GoBrandIt and Later price per plan. GoBrandIt Creator is $4.99 a month (or $50 a year) for 10 accounts and 30 scheduled posts, and every paid plan has a 14-day trial and a 7-day money-back guarantee. The full breakdown is on our pricing page. If you're juggling several brands, our guide to managing multiple social media accounts covers the setup.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a completely free social media scheduler?

Yes. Buffer, Publer, Metricool, Zoho Social, GoBrandIt and Pallyy all have free-forever plans, each capped on accounts or posts. Meta Business Suite is free too, but only for Facebook and Instagram.

Does Hootsuite have a free plan?

No. Hootsuite offers a 14-day free trial with no card required. After that, the Standard plan starts at $99 a month.

Which free social media scheduler allows the most accounts?

Zoho Social's free plan connects 6 channels in one brand, one of each type: X, Instagram, Facebook Page, LinkedIn Page, LinkedIn profile and Google Business Profile. Buffer, Publer and GoBrandIt allow 3.

Can I schedule Instagram posts for free?

Yes. Buffer, Publer, Metricool, Zoho Social, GoBrandIt and Meta Business Suite all let you schedule Instagram posts on their free plans.

Is a free plan enough for a small business?

For one brand with up to three accounts and a few posts a week, usually yes. Once you need more accounts, approvals or AI images, a low-cost paid plan saves more time than it costs.
